FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Do SAREMCO products contain hexaethyl cellulose, hexamethyl cellulose or talc?
No SAREMCO product contains hexaethyl cellulose, hexamethyl cellulose or talc. SAREMCO products also do not contain paracetamol, diclophenac or acetylsalicylic acid.
How can the processing time of els cem be maintained?
els cem is set to a processing time of over 2 minutes. If the product hardens faster, it could be due to the temperature or due to the fact that it is mixed by hand. Another reason could be intense ambient lighting. If els cem is placed in the refrigerator and removed shortly before the treatment, the processing time will be maintained.
Do SAREMCO products contain EDGMA, HPMA or hydroxy ethylacrylate (HEA)?
All SAREMCO Green Line products are free of EDGMA, HPMA or hydroxy ethylacrylates.
Are SAREMCO products compatible with each other?
Yes, all SAREMCO products are compatible with each other.
Do SAREMCO products contain fluoride?
SAREMCO products, except els cem, do not contain fluoride. The easily soluble sodium fluoride is added to many dental products in order to advertise fluoride delivery. Saremco does not use readily soluble fluoride in its products because we are not convinced of its effectiveness.
More about els cem in the question “Why does els cem contain ytterbium trifluoride?”
Why does els cem contain ytterbium trifluoride?
Ytterbium trifluoride is a very poorly soluble fluoride. This filler gives els cem a very high radiopacity, which is very advantageous for such a luting material.
Note: Ytterbium trifluoride is very widely used in dental materials. Clinical experience of over 10 years is available. In addition, considerable analytical effort is required to detect fluoride ions here.
Do SAREMCO products contain chlorhexidine digluconate?
SAREMCO Products do not contain any chlorhexidine digluconate.
Do SAREMCO products contain toluene?
There is no toluene in SAREMCO products.
Do SAREMCO products contain Bisphenol A (BPA)?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an issue in the dental industry because it is the basic material for the production of BisGMA and also ethoxylated BisGMA. BisGMA is one of the most commonly used raw materials or monomers in dental filling composite materials. During manufacture, BisGMA is made from Bisphenol A in a 2-stage process (this also applies to the ethoxylated BisGMA). In such a process it is unavoidable that there are still traces of the basic raw material in the final product. We can therefore not state that our materials are free of Bisphenol A. We can only say with a clear consciences that there are maximum concentrations of Bisphenol A below the analytical detection limit in our raw materials. We arrange for all the raw materials in question to be routinely tested for their Bisphenol A content and only use batches, which have a Bisphenol content below the detection limit (0.5 ppm).
Is there a difference between BisGMA and ethoxylated BisGMA?
Yes. Ethoxylated BisGMA is a different monomer to BisGMA and has different properties.
Do SAREMCO products contain BisGMA?
Some SAREMCO products contain BisGMA. The following SAREMCO products are free of BisGMA: apt unibond, apt composite, apt flow, els unibond, els duobond, cmf etch, els seal, els cem, csp ceramic silane.
Do SAREMCO products contain bisphenol A-dimethacrylate (BisDMA)?
SAREMCO does not use any bisphenol A-dimethacrylate in producing its products. We are also not aware that bisphenol A-dimethacrylate occurs as a contaminant in the raw materials we use.
Do SAREMCO products contain EGDMA?
SAREMCO Green Line products do not contain any EGDMA.
Do SAREMCO products contain benzoyl peroxide?
There is some benzoyl peroxide in els cem, but not in the other Green Line products.
Do SAREMCO products contain titanium III oxalate?
SAREMCO Green Line products do not contain any titanium III oxalate.
Do SAREMCO products contain barium-sulphate?
Barium-sulphate was previously used as an x-ray contrast agent in dental materials. SAREMCO products do not contain any barium sulphate.
Are SAREMCO materials tested regarding an influence on the neuro-endocrine system?
Not directly. There are research groups working on this subject, whereby no relevant influences through dental filling composites have yet been identified. The degradation processes/metabolic degradation of the monomers in the bodies of mammals (guinea pigs) have already been investigated, whereby not all intermediate products were declared/determined precisely. However, it was shown that most of the monomers were later excreted via the urine or breath (CO2). Bisphenol A is known as an endocrine disruptor, we therefore arrange for all the raw materials, which might contain Bisphenol A to be investigated for Bisphenol A. We use these raw materials only if there is no evidence of any Bisphenol A content (content lower than 0.5 ppm). In our research department we are also working in the field of the degradation of filling composites through enzymes. This area is still relatively unknown, but also appears to have an influence.
According to which system are dangerous substances labelled in the SAREMCO Safety Data Sheets?
The labelling of dangerous substances in the SAREMCO Safety Data Sheets is according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
Do SAREMCO Green Line products contain UDMA?
SAREMCO does not use any UDMA in Green Line products, as UDMA always contains small proportions of HEMA.
Are there any anti-microbial active substances in SAREMCO products?
All SAREMCO Green Line products do not contain any antimicrobial active agents.
Do SAREMCO Green Line products contain aluminium?
There is a barium-boron aluminium silicate in els composite, els flow, apt composite, apt flow (in the syringe and tip in each case), els bulkfill and els cem as an inert filler. This dental glass has been used for many years in dental filling composite materials and is generally regarded as insoluble, i.e. traces of aluminium can be detected only with substantial analytical effort.
Why is apt a further step towards biocompatibility?
apt contains the SAREMCO monomer and is therefore significantly more resistant to degradation than els and all other dental filling materials on the market. As a result of this increased degradation stability, the human body is burdened with fewer degradation products on the one hand, and on the other hand an increased service life of such fillings is guaranteed.
Can SAREMCO products be used for root treatments?
SAREMCO Green Line products tend not to be used for root treatments. The product els cem is a composite cement and can be used to fasten root pins.
Is fissure sealing possible using only the els seal (without any primer)?
A fissure seal is primarily to create a permanent connection between the tooth enamel and the fissure sealing material. As it is quite difficult to create a chemical adhesion on enamel, the enamel surface must be made “retentive”, in other words by etching the enamel layer around the fissure the surface becomes rough and therefore the corresponding retention (purely physically) can be achieved with a good wetting fissure sealer. An additional bonding agent such as els paintart or cmf bond leads to no substantial improvement here because these materials also adhere purely retentively. If a bonding agent is definitely required, then we would rather recommend els unibond, which is likely to create a certain chemical bond via the MDP adhesive monomer. In addition, human enamel bonding carried out from an independent source (Dr. Blunck, Charite Berlin) shows very good values. However, the clinical investigations carried out so far showed that the purely retentive bonding is completely sufficient for fissure sealing. But a condition for this is very good drying of the area treated.
Do SAREMCO products contain hydroquinone?
Hydroquinone was previously used to a large extent as a photo developing material. In the meantime it has been replaced through less worrying materials. We cannot completely rule out that there is no hydroquinone in our materials. Hydroquhinone is used as a stabiliser in the production of the preliminary steps of the monomers we use. Some are used up during production, but some could then also recur in the monomers. This cannot be proven analytically. It also applies to all the dental materials available on the market.
Do SAREMCO products contain nickel?
There is no nickel in SAREMCO products.
Do SAREMCO adhesives contain phosphoric acid?
There is phosphoric acid in els unibond, els duobond and cmf adhesive system (prime & bond) – although only traces. Most manufacturers now use a special phosphate (MDP) in their adhesives. In these cases some phosphoric acid always also occurs as an accompanying substance that cannot be avoided from a technical perspective.
Do SAREMCO products contain phthalates?
There are no phthalates in SAREMCO products.
Does SAREMCO offer any products for temporary fittings?
No, SAREMCO does not offer any materials for temporary fittings.
How high are the transport temperatures for SAREMCO products?
All SAREMCO products should be transported or stored between 4°C to 28°C, with the exception of els cem and els duobond at 4°C to 8°C.
What is the main difference between els and apt?
All the advantages of els are included in apt, but apt shows a up to 10 times reduced degradation by saliva. In other words, apt is even more resistant and stable than els.
Is els or apt a nano-composite?
Both els and apt are micro-hybrid composites. Materials are described as nano-composites if the fillers have particle sizes of < 100 nm. In popular micro-hybrid composites fillers are processed which contain particle sizes of approx. 700 nm. From a production technology aspect, there are however also a small quantity of particle sizes here, which are < 100 nm. At present it is assumed that these proportions on a nano scale are firmly anchored in the polymer and can therefore not penetrate into the body. However, the scientific instigations on this subject have not yet been completed.
How high are the detected metharylate values in the room air of dental practices and dental laboratories?
The following values were measured and published in a doctoral thesis by the LMU Munich.
In dental practices: MMA 0.1 – 21 mg/m³, HEMA 7 – 45 µg/m³, EGDMA 8 – 13 µg/m³, TEGDMA 19 – 45 µg/m³
